Thoughts on Independence Day...
Some came at the head of armies; others, in the chains of slavery. Some fled the tyranny of despots, the terror of war, or the pangs of famine. For many reasons, they came. They scratched a living from the wilderness. Some fought for a new way of life while others fought to preserve their native culture. Yet, immigrant or native, poor or powerful, they forged a nation, and earned the right to call themselves Americans. They toiled in the coal mines and cotton fields, on whalers, and skipjacks and riverboats. They forged iron into steel, laid rails, carried mortar, and fired bricks. They plowed and hammered and welded and sawed. From their labor and sacrifice came this great nation, a land where freedom is far more than a word.

While I realize that airsoft is biased towards the military. I think that for independence day we should be more grateful for the freedom we have and take for granted everyday. It is not a day to remember those who fought for our country but rather the ideals, beliefs and potential our nation has and will have in the future. It is a reminder that our freedom is only so deep and that not only should the military be the ones fighting for it but so should we, the average citizens. Because it is not the military, or the soldier that makes us great or free but us the average American who strive each day to make ourselves and our nation a better place to live. Since it only we, the citizens, who can only preserve what is won by blood through continued vigilence of what our government does and will attempt to do.

the military is made up of every day citizens. and they are the ones who actually die protecting our freedoms abroad. so I say that they are due some respect. since the militias of the colonies formed a "military" of united militias. to make us independant from england if thats what your getting at.
Once you join the military you are no longer a citizen. You are a soldier, Marine, airman, or sailor. You and only you can protect your freedom. Do you really think that our threat comes from abroad? No, the military today/tomorrow is fighting to protect our interests abroad and privileges that we seem to think are our rights. Our freedom is in danger from within our own country by our own government.

I'm gonna side with freq on this one, unless your screen name is accurate and you actually do work for BlackWater. But thats extremely unlikely. Freq knows what he's talking about, and has represented his arguement clearly and persuasively.
