The holes were probably just big enough to let light in, not stick your head through. Plus I dont think those drill instructors would like him cheating like that :lol:

They're called the "Worm Holes" or "Snake Holes". The holes in the top are not supposed to be used for taking breaths out of unless absolutely necessary, (as in he couldn't get unstuck and was forced to breathe from those openings).
