Custom Trench Gun **UPDATE 8/20/08**

Jul 12, 2008 7:02pm
Hey guys, just thought I would post up some shots of my latest gun. It started as a Marushin 8mm M500 clone and I added a real steel walnut stock & forearm added as well as a real steel M1897 heat shield w/ bayonet lug. I was missing my old Tanaka Trench Gun but didn't want to go back o using the shells (and didnt like that the tanaka was almost all plastic :( ) so I decided to try and make this WWII Winchester M12 lookalike. Though there are a few differences I think it looks pretty good. I'm still working on modifying the loading mechanism to work with the heat shield but as far as appearances it's complete (I do want to try and get a steel buttplate to replace the recoil pad though). Lemme know what you guys think. :)

Thanks for the positive comments guys (Borat was a nice touch haha). I'll be sure to get some more shots when I'm done with the loading modifications. Hopefully later on I can get a WWII sling mount for the stock as well. My only worry is that not alot of fields will really approve of an 8mm shotgun (didn't really think of that when I was getting it). Oh well.

Let me know if you want to distress that wood. I can show you some examples of what I have done and show you how I did it too.

I have senn examples of jis work and it looks pretty sick, especially on real steel AK!

Alrighty guys, I got the loading mechanism problem fixed. Only thnig is the very front of the bayo lug ended up having to be ground off. The rear part of the lug had to be removed as well so I could cut the groove I needed to slide the mag plug out. Good thing is I managed to reattach the rear part of the bayo lug that was was cut off onto the magazine plug so it at least maintains part of the original look. I also removed the front sling swivel (since I dont think it would be a good idea to put all the stress on the mag plug) and re atached it onto the QD swivel that was part of the original gun. I'm still looking for a buttplate that will fit but I have got a M1917 leather sling to fit to it. Only thing left other than the buttplate now is to find and attach a rear sling swivel. Lemme know what you guys think.

Honestly, for 100 bucks it's probably one of the best airsoft purchases I have ever made. The quality on the stock furniture wasnt as good as marushin (but i swapped those out anyway) and the internals needed a bit of clean up (sanding, new oring, and some lube) but, like I said, for 100 bucks it's a steal. The gun is nice and solid and is pretty damn intimidating espcecially now it has the heat shield on it. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a good shotgun. Although some people may want to consider getting the 6mm version (if you can still find it) since many public fields dont allow 8mm. Once I can get some accurate test results I'll try and post them up for everyone to see.

Besides the $100 purchese of the shotgun, how much money and time was needed to get it to this stage? And a difficulty level needed to alter the real steel parts for a airsoft toy?

They have the 6mm on airsoft gi

Let's see. I got the stock on gunbroker for about 22 shipped (also came with a big ass M500 forearm lol). I got the forearm that I used on the gun for about 20 shipped (also from gunbroker). And the heat shield was about 80 shipped from IMA-USA. As for the work, it wasnt too hard, it just took time. Mostly grinding and cutting with a dremel. For total amount of time I would say I spent about 10-12 hours to get it just how I wanted it.
