Understand Your Enemy

Aug 21, 2008 12:40am
Received this video from a buddy of mine performing FID missions in Iraq. Prior to this deployment he was part of a unit operating with 19 Iraqi Nationals, 4 Delta Operators, 6 SEALs, and 12 Marines. He says it was the greatest fighting force he's ever been with, not because of their Dynamics, various abilities, and extensive training, but because it was a Fighting Force that understood their enemies. Not just the way the enemy moved, fought, and withdrew, but because they understood their ideology. My buddy is one of my greatest heroes, and has taught me alot, but the one thing he has taught me over and over again is to understand your enemy. So for those of you who think we are fighting Iraqis, that are ill-equipped and just strap bombs to themselves to accomplish an objective, I pity you.

this man quite educated. call me a traitor or whatever, but I find it strangely refreshing to hear one of "the opposition" talking intelligently without spewing "allah ackbar" every other line.

Great insight into the mind of a "terrorist". These guys are intelligent and well organized. Intelligent in the way they exploit the enemies weaknesses and work around thier strengths. Reminds me of the VietCong in some ways.

Just like the VC but now with a little technological edge provided by the neighbors to the east (Iran).

the main difference between these guys and the VC is that the former are religiously-driven, whereas the VC were merely governmentally driven. The VC defended their own country because of a belief in communism, whereas these guys are outsiders using other countries as a battleground to fight a war based on their religious ideals.
