Anti-reversal latch

Oct 18, 2008 11:30pm
Does anyone have any tips or tricks to get this to stay in place while you're putting in your spring and closing up the gearbox? Mine always falls over before I can get the gearbox shut....so it takes about 100 tries before I get it. Any help would be much appreciated.

What I normally do is have a friend hold the tip of a pencil over the shell on top of the latch when we put it on, that normally does the trick.

Some grease on the bottom of it and maybe a little around the spring to keep it in place.

The easiest way to get it into place is first install it correctly...When you get to the point where you are putting the 2 halves together (where it usually tips over) just let it tip over, it will prevent you from closing it all the way, so as you are holding the halves together use a tiny screwdriver to push it into place as you close the gearbox.

Keep the gearbox flat on a table. install the anti reversal latch in and turn the spur gear until it locks. Place other half of gearbox on top and swiftly, yet with a steady and gentle pressure put the two halves together. Use a pick or small screwdriver to get all the axles aligned into their respective holes and then press the pieces together and screw down.

If I get a really annoying latch that refuses to sit right, I'll usually slightly bend the straight part of the spring a little so it rests a little higher up in the gearbox so that it wont torque and twist the latch out as easy.
