So I'm running a Guarder SP120 in a v2 gearbox with standard sportline gears (m4). It has a EG1000 but it seems to get a little hot and causes the gearbox to lock up half way through its cycle. If I let it sit for a while it seems to fix itself. So should I get a set of torque up gears or is it maybe something else?

Try using a different battery. Sounds more like your battery doesn't have enough amps to pull back your piston.
