That was my thinking. Flip up irons and quick release acogs probably weren't around or in budget at the time of those photos. But good thinking to keep a sight to use on the gun anyway.

If the Marine uses the ACOG to shoot people. Gun comes with carry handle sight from Marine Corps. Well, he's not going to use it since he has the ACOG. But if the Marine loses CHS he gets in trouble. The Marine can put the CHS in a pouch, but has to remove life taking or life saving items to make room...
Only gay unit commanders make you do that, the reason why they have them on their weapon is because the soldiers are accountable for every piece of there weapon.
