how realistic can they get?
I was thinking the other date, how realistic is airsoft compare to real steel? I have been around airsoft for a bit, and seen some awesome realism improvment to airsoft, but frankly for the most part (as far as the equipment goes) we are still kind of off. Example, most airsoft M16 or M4 doesnt feel exactly like their counter part, weight is slightly off, functionality is just not the same, ballistic characterist is just not there at all, and the thing hit me the most is the accuracy, unless you spend some major bank, your airsoft to including PTW are just...well toy. Now, I still love airsoft, but i wonder how much longer do we have to wait for some really realistic airsoft???

The key question is how real would be allowed before the goverment takes notice, and starts putting additional restrictions onto airsoft. With Reciol engines, working bolt catches, slimmer motors and what not, the only determining factor is how far will manufacturers go and still have it cheap yet profitable for them.

start wearing real kelvar...but no seriously i was talking about accuracy, trajectory, distance, probably matching diameter to cailber, everything about the real steel but not the kill. i know is pretty much scientifically impossible, but i just want to bring it up

"Remember Jimmy Mackaway on the yard used to say, If you wanna be making moves on the street, have no attachments, have nothing in your life you cannot walk out on in 30 seconds flat in you spot the heat around the corner..."
Most of us legal folks fill the gap for realism by shooting real steel guns. 8)

lol yea yea i know. and i fill the gap by going on deployment once awhile, but ok, let me ask this then, the WA M4 is about the most realistic airsoft I am aware of, functionalitis is pretty much spot on, but the reliablity is not there. how hard is it to make an AEG that retain all the correct and actual function of the real steel? how do you really make a PTW a real PTW?

You really need to go gas blowback. You just aren't going to get the feel or responsiveness from an AEG. The WA's shortcoming is its gas in the mag setup; which is the limiting factor with respect to realistic feel/reliability. The most promising setup will be a gas blowback rifle with external air that retains all the functionality of the real steel weapon. The SP series of the M16 and Escorts GBB engine are good starting points(but nothing more than a starting point). Escort failed (up until this point) to refine the engine and its system to its full potential. I'm working on something that fills the void between SP/WA and real steel, but it will be a while before the AR15 series gets prototyped as I have other products in line.

The WA M4 is the most realistic airsoft AR15 out there.
