Shit happens, at least it wasn't any more than a punch to the face. I guess no one remember two months ago in Downtown Sacramento that a female panhandler shot a man in the stomach and attempted to shoot another round into his head. Count your lucky stars that nothing more happened than a split cheek.

I'm with Andrew on this one. I will add, however, in the future ALWAYS maintain a cushion of space around you and if it is violated be immediately prepared to defend yourself. Also, never turn your back on an individual or a group of people once you have been confronted/asked for anything.
I have always acted in self defense, occasionally pre-emptive self defense.
