I have a pt score of 300 and I qualify w/ my ASVAB score. I know scout sniper training will be hard, im not gonna run from it. Harder will make you better, so I see no reason to leave because of that.

what about going into rangers and then trying out for sniper school. The Army has me when it comes to Rangers and the 10th Mnt Division. thats where they really catch my eye.

i agree with stone and mike; but if you are as set about it as you seem heed dave's advice, im combat engineers so i cant really speak towards the inf side but having done some infantry stuff last 2 deployments i can say dave's in the right direction

Great advice guys. Overall I am set on one thing only. I want to become a sniper, how I go there or through whcih branch I havent decided yet. As mentioned earlier, everything past Infantry is far down the road, but I see no reason to create a plan for my future that I want to follow.

I am a Marine and I am gonna give the advice of go army. There's a big thing going on where if you have a color deficiency it will stop you from doing anything else other than being an 0311 in the 03xx field (infantry)

The thing with the color defiency is that the Army states "Normal Color vision is required" while the Marines state "Normal color vision is encouraged"

my suggestion is to start shooting you have a year to develop your skills get your parents to buy you a remington 700 learn that rifle in and out both the marines and army use remington 700 variants get yourself a good scope and get out to the sac valley shooting center and talk to the precision rifle club guys they know their stuff and will help

plus Hathcock came in at a good time. After every war the "Sniper" position was pretty much abandoned, so they were looking for the best shots they could get

the really important question to ask is why? Why do you want to join the military? What happen 6+ years ago to make you want to join the military?

Nothing. who knows maybe I breathed a certain breath that had "military" in. I could have contracted it like the common cold. Overall I really dont know, As far as i can remember, the Military is what I have wanted to do. Some kids grow up wanting to be basketball players, firefighters, and actors. The military has just always been what I wanted to do, I never took interest in anything else.

listen. i am not sure why you give me a smart-a$$ answer. the reson i asked is because I have seen so many Marines regret joining. and when i asked them why they joined in the first place, everything became clear. you think about that buddy. and think about what IF you don't like it after you joined, what are you going to do, what can you get out of the military? Are you willing to deal with all the BS, all the negative and trade for being in the military?

Im srry offending you that was not meant to be a smart ass answer. I have taken an interest into the Marines. I want to be a Marine. When I watch the news the first thing that goes itno my head is it cant always be someone else's kid. If you are suggesting that I do not love my country, you better hold your tongue because you dont know what you are talking about. I am not saying i know eveything, i am just saying that I know what I want to do. And that is to become a Marine. I hope there is no friction between you and I as I did not mean my last post offensively.
