Special Forces Info

Feb 17, 2009 6:21am
I am 16 and I'd like to go through ROTC and then hopefully into a special forces branch. I have researched the hell out of it and I already know a lot about it, but I'm looking for people who have an inside scoop as to what it's really about. As we all know, the recruitment videos are BS and tell you very little.

Run 12 miles everyday with a 80lb rucksack from now until you leave for the military and you should be good.

Hey CAG_Mike_X12 an Air Assault contract isn't offered anymore, just a Rnager RIP, and an Airborne contract is offered with your MOS contract

Do they have JROTC at your high school? If they do, go out with them for PT or maneuvers (if they do that, I dont know about JROTC but ROTC does so thats what im going off of) See if you like that. Its better to find out you hate something before ya contract than to be join because of hype and 1. Hate it or 2. Wash out.

This is not first hand experience, just what people I know have told me about their careers in combat arms (all have been E7+ or O3+)

Get a RIP contract. If you can't make it through RIP your not meant to be in Special Operations of any kind.

Concentrate on enjoying high school first. You're only 16. Then get yourself into college. Once you get into college and spend a couple of years under your belt then decide whether or not you even want to do ROTC. Because you might find out that a Fraternity maybe for you instead. You could even find that taking drugs and getting drunk whenever you want is much more satisfying than keeping up a regime to stay in ROTC or even enlisting in the near future.

I agree with freq. Really just live your life right now. You have 2 years of highschool(some of the most fun you can have in life). Honestly the stuff you are asking you can find out when you are more elidgable to join. I also would say go to college for atleast one year, who is to say you will not like that?
