Sewing on the Screaming Eagles Patch

Feb 25, 2009 5:28am
This is a very straight forward question on the placement of the Screaming Eagles patch on the m42 jacket. I've looked at photo, after photo, after photo, after photo, etc. and have seen different placements.

"Is there even a correct "placement" of the patch" As far as I can tell... No. I put mine about where the second one is, a little lower only becuase I like how it looked about there. I looked at tons of pictures too and found the same thing.. it seems to vary a lot.

Do you think it changes depending on the campaign?

You actually see a little variety in the placement of patches on combat uniforms in WWII. Typically the top of the patch was about two finger widths from the seam on the shoulder. I've seen pics where they were almost a full two inches from the shoulder. Usually it was closer though. Basically, anywhere within an inch or so is completely and totally period correct. You will see all varieties within that range in original pictures and in pictures of original uniforms.
