The Ruger Mini 14. Anyone here ever fire one, own one? I'd like your personal opinions on this rifle, me and my pops want an auto loading rifle chambered in .223 Remington but as I just recently learned this states f***ing lovely assault weapons ban prohibits the ownership of an AR15 without a mother f***ing fixed mag (rage dump), so were looking into a Mini 14.

Have a mini 14 and have fired it a lot. However, from what i have heard, you either love them or hate them. Some think they are an expensive POS while others (like myself) love them to death. Not nearly as accurate as an AR but will get the job done for coyote hunting (my POU for the rifle).

Id go 7.62x39 either a SKS or an Ak. Ammo is a little easier to find and a whole lot cheaper. .223 seems to be sold out everywhere. just my .02 cents.

I've got one of the old models and I love it. I just use it as sort of a bush gun and range run. Meaning that I carry in the saddle or truck with me just in case and I target shoot for shits and giggles. Perfect for what I use it for..

I used a Ruger mini 14 for approximately 7-7 1/2 years. It was a departmental issued weapon, which shot OK. Reliability was decent, not too many malfunctions and a fairly inexpensive weapon. The action is very similar to the M1a1, but a miniature version. I personally never liked the weapon and I have always been an AR fan. I have switched departments about 5 years ago. Our specialized units carry AR's. If you are a larger frame person and don't mind the weight or the price, Springfield Socom or Socom II. On the AR, “Bullet Lock” for non-LEO and a 10 rd mag??? Just my two cents.

Hum, I have also been thinking about a mini 14 . Good to hear some info from people who actually owned them. Although I still think I want a 9mm something before anymore rifles.

They are reliable as hell. I have about 2k through mine with very few FTE or FTF... They were due to cheap ammo not the weapon.
