Yes yes, the 1014 is an outstanding shotgun I'm not doubting that but how much do those puppies go for, 1300 or so I'm sure. This 870 set me back about 350 or so. Its like yeah we could all go out and buy Systema PTWs but that won't be very forgiving to our budgets.

Sometimes you just know perfection when your holding it.

It seems 870's are much like 1911's......

Ah, don't listen to those guys with their fancy-shmancy auto-loaders! Every home has an 870 in it! That's what makes them good for Zombie Apocalypse -- if something breaks on yours, replacement parts are in the nearest home that still has an 870 tucked under the mattress!

I don't carry a gun to scare people.

A shotgun without a stock is nothing more than a $400 stick that occasionally makes loud noises.

[quote="Stone"]... or perhaps a pistol-grip shotgun is the most powerful large-framed pistol imaginable for $400?

Agreed nothing beats a magazine.

The real value of a full stock is only appreciated when you have been butt-stroked by one.........
Seek the Narrow Gate, for the path is broad and the gate is wide that leads to destruction.

I totally agree about the magazine, its a novel concept on a shotgun. Pumps are a fail safe way to go, but the new breed of gas operated semi autos should not really be lumped in with older recoil operated systems. The Benelli self cleaning system is right up there with the 870 in terms of reliability. It will go 25,000 rounds reliability without a single part replacement and will feed anything from light field loads to 3" magnums without any adjustments. I'm willing to give up shooting LL ammo easily for faster cycle times and less felt recoil because besides that it has been proven in military testing there is little difference between the m4 and a pump. The same can be said for the Siaga for the most part but i just don't dig the mags.

Never really believed the hype about Benelli's cleanliness until my dad didn't clean his for two years.
