13 year old ok?

My son announced today that all of his friends have softair guns and are playing in their backyards. I have read safety sites and done some research, but am still concerned. I saw a video at one of the manufacture's web sites of an airsoft gun making dents in a metal sign at about 50 feet. I want to encourage my son on gun safety and, given he is somewhat of a loner, encourage him in social situations, but is this safe? His mother and he say that their racquetball goggles are fine. I don't think so. Thoughts? Is a vest needed/advisable? Help a concerned dat.

Yes, this is a "safe" sport. You may get some welts though.

Also a hunter safety course is a good idea. I and most everyone else I know on this site all practice the idea of treat it as if it were a real gun.
