Not the weapon itself. Depends on the configuration you have it in just like AR's or AK's in California.

I'm pretty sure Benelli M4s are California legal. I've met Cali residents who own Remington 1100s and despite the 1100 and M4 being very different auto loading shotguns from each other, as far as California firearms laws are concerned their the same gun.

The M4 is 100% legal in this bullsh*t state. I just wanting some input on what owners of the M4 think of it. Is the price worth it? How does it compare to Rem 870s and Mossberg 500s?

Thats what I like to hear. The 870 is cheap to buy stock but all the furniture and accessories for it cost a sh*t load. The M4 seemed like the only shotgun out of the box that you dont have to do anything to. Thanks for the input.

Other than an increased ROF and less kick, what does the M4 do that the 870 wont? If we're talking a combat shotgun here, a decent set of sights and a side saddle should be pretty much all you need I would think.

That is a good point. The 870 is a great shotgun. It is just my personal preference to have a semi-auto shotgun. I dont have to change my body position or sight picture everytime I shoot. Some other things I took into account is the M4 has everything I need right out of the box and weights in at 8 1/2 lbs. The 870 weights 8 lbs stock and doesnt come with the features I want. I would have to add those features and therefore add more weight and money. After I added it up the price of an 870 and M4 are close to the same.

I don't think you can put them both in the same class or look at them the same. Apples and Oranges.
