Hi guys, I'm a new player in the Sacramento area (28 y/o) who is trying to find out if airsoft is something I could really get into. Nobody I know has anything but a springer, so I haven't gotten a chance to get into any games besides 3v3 backyard stuff, and because of this all I own is a UTG M87SOS. I absolutely adore this gun, but I'm not under any impression that it's a serious weapon of any sort. My question is, do you think it is realistic that I could play with a few groups from Sacairsoft just to get a feel for the community, rules, players, types of weapons, types of gameplay, etc? Or is it absolutely necessary to invest $150+ on an AEG before I even show my face at such an event? I don't mind getting owned, or being relegated to watching the flanks of the players with real weapons, I just want to get my boots muddy and get an understanding of the sport. Let me know what the deal is. THANKS!
the shotgun should be fine I would try to get a pistol something like the crowman c11 as a semi auto back up

It is not necessary to have an AEG your first time out. I have seen plenty of first timers with just clear spring pistols and have a great time. My first game was with a clone gbb and I did awesome. If and when you do decide to buy an AEG, skip the clones and go for either CA, TM, or KWA. All of which can be found at AEX sac. Not to mention the guys that work there are awesome to work with. Helped me with my first AEG purchase. So by all means, come out and play.

i have a TSD $25 springer shotgun that takes shells and has owned the {bleep} out of oh i dunno 8:10 people in a pistol match in one room at one time (the other 2 didn't call it) on top of gettting 6 hits against guys with AEG's
yes, Galt's field is an excellent place to start playing. many players there actually use spring shotguns to good effect on the field. not to mention the fact that you may use a spring shotgun when entering buildings will sometimes give you a great tactical edge.
I've been airsofting maybe 8 years. I didn't own an AEG until my second year. I used a Tokyo Marui Mk23 Springer usually loaned to me. I had no problem hitting what I needed to.
most of the stuff i see people selling here start 300+ for the base gun alone. with that said you can find some really really good deals off private seller's section if you actually do go for a real gun

I'd go with newused. There are some guns here that are upgraded heavily for 200 bucks sometimes. I've gotten all my deals here on SacAir.
