Yeah, you need insurance. You also need proff of insurance to register the bike.

Yikes, does anybody roughly know how much more it would cost to ad a newer bike to existing car insurance?

Not sure about adding one but my insurance is 22 a month on its own. about 160 for the car. Foremost/Easy rider is my bike insurance

If you ask me motorcycle insurence is kind of silly. If you crash into someone, you don't need to worry about fixing there car because you're going to be dead. If someone crashes into you they are not going to need to worry about fixing your bike becuase you will be squished. If you crash by yourself and aren't killed, you aren't going to report it to insurence.

dont be an idiot and buy an r1 as your first bike. no matter who you are (especially at 17 unless your god or from nitro circus) you're not capable of riding a 1000cc yet. there's so many beginners that buy bikes that are way too fast for them and end up crashing it.

The permit restricts you to no passenger, city streets and daylight only.

Whatever bike you get, take the riding course, and then take it up to Thunderhill with a motorcycle club. You WILL learn.

If you give to a charity please think of giving to one of these two charities. The Naval Special Warfare Foundation or Navy SEAL Warrior Fund.

I am in the process of getting a bike myself. You really have to look at the reason you are getting the bike though. My car is fine as it is but living on my own I rely purely on the car so a cheap backup would be the motorcycle for local stuff.

Ignore EVERYONE who is adding their opinion. If you wheck a bike, regardless of style and size the outcome is nearly the same - Squish... get what you want and take the safety classes prior to riding on the street. If you get someting you aren't really interested in, you will kick yourself in the ass for buying the bike.
