EMS questions

Feb 16, 2012 6:36pm
Hey guys I seem to remember that a few of the old timers worked in ems, and now that I'm running with a rescue squad i wanted to ask if anyone knows how any certs I have would transfer over to CA standards. Can I take.exams to get cali certs for EVOC or EMT B etc? I dont want to take any of the more expensive courses again if I dont have to.

As long as you have all you paperwork (photo ID, CPR-Pro Card, NREMT cert, etc.) and the EMT course taken outside of California meets California EMS agency's requirement/standards, you should be able to transfer your credentials.

You can also contact the accrediting body for EMT ( i forget who it is) and make sure that the standards and whatnots the guy above me was talking about are the same. Transfering INTO CA can be the hardest as we ussualy have the strictest rules and regulations, however transfering to states where marrying your cousin may be legal is quite easy.

If you're certified NREMT you shouldn't have any issues with being allowed to take your local area EMSA governing agency. As far as EVOC, forget it. California has so many things that they want and generally will not give "An apple for an apple" cert swap.
