For that price range I would recommend a Tokyo Marui VSR 10. A few different models to choose from and range in price between $180.00 - $240.00. A cheap scope for $25.00 - $35.00 and a spring upgrade (400fps or lower $12.00) is all you need to get started.

I think if someone wants to buy a certain gun, then he should get it. the kid wants to snipe. let him try it.
Sep 30, 2009 12:26am
i agree with you Brian, just let him try it out.. who knows he may like it. just because over 80% of people seem to get one and sell it because it lacks what they want or arent the best at it doesnt mean he wont like it either. give it a shot man!

i've been hit within engagement distance by an aeg far more times than with a sniper rifle. in fact i never even really see the younger kids with the sniper rifles on the field.

you can take everyones opinions into consideration and make your own decision. people have strong preferences when it comes to guns. if your kid wants to try sniping, let him try it i say. if he doesnt like it, they hae an extremely high resale value. like dagger said.

Just so everyone is clear on this, the rule requiring players to have more then (6) six games under ther belt and to be aproved for a sniping role by an admin, only pertains to rifles that shoot over 400 fps. (400-550fps) to be exact.

If he's set on a sniper(will probably change once he actually plays as one)
Look its a bird its a plane, no its just my broken aeg flying all over the place.

VSR 10 no upgrades, use .25s :) youll be happy enough to reach out there. im sure if its his first rifle, he will see others playing with AEG's and want that instead, due to BB's down range syndrome. sniper rifle - one shot every 5-8 secs maybe more with a new person that has never sniped before. 30-45 rounds/mag. lets compare this to a basic AEG, battery powered, 9.6v, mag capacity or 200-600 depending on rifle type. ability to full auto, send more than 20 rounds down range somewhat accurately (at least to hit a target with more than just 5 of them bb's of death.

I think the best way is to buy a stock sniper rifle (either Maruzen or the TM vsr series). Help him along the way to mod the rifle. In the end it'll cost more, but at the same time he'll be learning the purpose of each part and appreciate the mechanical aspects of airsoft. Spoiling him with a maxed out sniper rifle will NOT teach him anything in the end.
I would rather see a new player with a single shot rifle their first time out then oh let's say......a M249. :D
Maybe it could be used as a crutch for a downed man game. J/K Sucks to hear it broke.
