Thanks to Mr. Reyes' advice (and others too), I went to AEX and purchased a KWA G17 GBB. It seems like a pretty good sidearm and it's easy to operate/shoot. With a few more accessories, I will be ready for the next game.
the last time i did this, i used a flat black automotive engine paint. seems to stick okay to metal and has held up pretty good so far. remember to go for many light light coats and take your time, rather than trying to get full coverage on the first pass. good luck too.
