Graphics card question?

Sep 16, 2011 1:41am
Hey so i purchased a graphics card a couple months ago for my computer mainly to run starcraft and such on ultra/extreme. I can get the exact name if i researched it but i lost the box for the card. it is a pny geforce of sorts and ran me $120. When i first bought it i could easily run ultra/extreme graphics on starcraft. I have since been playing LOL and just today went to run starcraft and now i can barely run on medium graphics (goes low, medium, high, ultra, extreme). Why is this?? do graphics cards wear down?

Looks like you have some background processes hosing your computer. I'd look in your Windows Processes window and see what is taking up resources.

what sort of things should i be looking for? most the processes arent taking up much space, or the ones that are are being used

Have you recently installed any programs like an anti-virus? Also I would go to Nvidia's site and get the latest drivers for your card.

Clean out your video card/computer. I use a gaming laptop and if I don't clean out the vents/fans every couple months, my games will suffer a huge FPS drop randomly and jitter, making it basically unplayable. It could be the same problem for your computer as well. Just buy a can of compressed air, open your case up, and get to work.

Alright so i'll update the drivers, and clean that out. Would heating be a problem? I mean the graphics card has its own little fan etc but the tower still heats up after a while of gaming as well

So i just tried to install the driver update but it says its not compatible with this version of windows. I run a windows 7 64 bit, and that's the info that was inputted (and it auto detected the card). I is confused

You could always leave the case open and put a fan next to it, just to see. What wattage is your PSU? Is it sufficient for the card? Not sure if that could be an issue.
