KWA KM4 with LiPo Blew Up

Dec 9, 2009 6:38am
I got a Socom Gear 11.1v 1500mah battery the other day for my KWA KM4 and was dry firing it just to brag about how badass it was. Then BAM! It started making a very strange higher pitched sound than I was used to. It would still fire but when I loaded a magazine it wouldn't fire bbs. I opened up the gun and the gearbox and this is what I found.

Was your piston head still connected or had it fallen off?

it was in two pieces. the large screw had its threads but wasn't threaded. and the smaller screw was destroyed.

Is the Cylinder ok or did it get scratched up?

Alright that brings up a new question. Is a bore up cylinder worth the $75? Could it even be an option? And in that case would I need a new spring?

And might that mean that the vibrations in the gun might have caused that screw to come loose? When I get my new one, would it be a good idea to locktite that screw on the piston?

One of the problems with this, is that despite what several websites say, KWA guns were never designed for LiPo's. If you check the box, manual, the KWA website, nowhere does KWA say that their guns are "LiPo ready"
OH, don't mind Austin, we let him greet the guests, and then tie him up out back.
I stand corrected. But this has got to be new, because a year ago I had plans to get a LiPo and a KWA and go to town. And when I looked at the KWA website they had a nice long disclaimer saying that they had a specialized sector gear for better feeding, and that their rifles had never been designed for LiPo batteries. They highly recomended using a 9.6 and said that they would continue developing and improving their guns to keep up with new products.

Thanks for all the info guys. I swore I remember reading that they were "LiPo ready" too. I'm going to end up getting a new cylinder, cylinder head, reinforced piston and piston head too.

Is a mosfet a good investment for my KWA with a 11.1v lipo?

well the things would really be lipo ready if they put some lock-tite on that little screw that holds the piston head onto the piston...
