M15 Box mag, recomendations

Apr 19, 2005 11:30pm
Hey, had a question. I have an M15, recently upgraded to shot approx. 400 fps. I was thinking about getting one of the box mags. There are a few different ones I've seen. Anyone have any recomendations of which one to buy, battery vs. wind up vs. brand etc... any help would be much appreciated. Also if any has one for sale let me know...

I heard wind up sucks. I mean, think about it, do you really want to wind up your mag with 5000 rounds to cycle? I think that would also defeat the purpose in your box mag.

No problem, that's what we are here for. I'm also a noobie so no worries.

i own both an auto winder and a wind up box mag. yes the winding sucks but the auto winders usually don't keep up with the rate of fire. so you can use several burst while the auto catches up or use a winder the you have to wind up every couple of hundred of rounds. usually i start with the winder but when i feal extra lazy i use the auto winder

I can go anywhere from the $65 range up to $150 or so... I noticed on AEX's web site there is a $65/1000 round wind up one, then there is the Classic Army motor driven/2500 round for $150. I was wondering if anyone could post from personal experience which one they had and what they thougt of it... If I'm going to spend upwards of 150 dollars for one of these things I would at like to know how its going to work...

go with the non auto winder. there is less to go wrong. First Factory is what i have for a G36. the only bummer is that i had to buy a hi cap just for the guts so i could put it in the box mag. they dont come with one.

Yeah, The FF box mags are nice. I had one, sold it to poser. He likes it alot. I custom built a Sub C batt pack in the bottom half of the mag box. If you do the same you won't half to put a full stock on it. It will still hold enough bb's, Just ask poser.

ok, great info, here's a few more questions...

They're two different box mags. You'll have to find the one for the M16. And if you drop a TM hi cap internals in it you'll have a reliable box mag.

i have heard mixed accounts with the TOPs. some work like a charm but others break after a few thousand rounds..... Not enough proof for me to buy yet.

i don't know if anyone said anything about this because i am too lazy to read all that, but if u buy a box mag you don't have to buy no more mags since you will have a buttrageous excess of ammo on your hands. i had a mosquito molds manual windup back when and it was rockin. just steer clear of that TOPS crap, only thing good about it is the metal is recyclable, gets u 15 cents at the recycle center.

Yeah, steer clear of the TOP mags. You may get lucky with one that works good, but more than likely it will SUCK. . . . LOL

Im just wondering here, why do you guys have box mags?
you look hungry...how about some bbs?
Apr 22, 2005 4:27pm
People have box mags for many reasons. One of it is that they only want to carry one mag  . Another reason is that people might want to engage at longer distances (specially those with 400 FPS with box mags).

Buying a "Box Mag" is cheaper than having to buy 10 standards or 5 hicaps I think..... Plus you don't have to buy a whole new vest when you want to play with a G3, G36 or some other huge magazine LOL  :D

K... it is only interesting cause alot of the people I play with and on the other forums I participate in are the exact opposite of all you guys.

Airsoft guns look like real guns , so mags should appear same way. I like to play with standard mag 10 to 30 rounds (depend).
Apr 23, 2005 2:31pm
Is this still not a game... I think we'd all like to appear more realistic but at the end of the day we're all shooting plastic BB's. I understand the standard mag argument. I will also freely admit I'm no sniper and bought a full auto AEG for a reason. My proposition was to use it as a light squad type weapon which would infer lots of covering fire. Which in turn meens lots of BB's.

What I did was I bought the auto winding W-mag for my M4. It has a switch on the bottom between the two mags for winding. It works well, holds about 950 BBs, and cost $110 bucks at AEX. It is a happy medium between a big (and heavy) box mag and low/mid caps. I dont carry any other mags onto the field. I carry a couple of tubes of BBs just incase I have to reload. I have only had to reload during a a game where i was defending an objective.

Just go get what you want and can afford. Who cares what some others think. It's your set up. If it bothers some that much, they can pitch in and buy you some standard mags. Not going to stop using my box mag just because someones crying about it

Thanks dude... personally I like both aspects... the realism and just having fun. I like to look at both sides of the coin and enjoy hearing what others have to say... wether I agree or not is unimportant in the long run.
