I've been thinking about buying a sniper rifle sometime during the summer break, and was wondering what should I get? I'm going between buying one of the Maruzen spring sniper rifles, and some kind of AEG M16 variant rifle. Mainly my reason for not choosing the AEG is that I'm concerned about durability after upgrading an AEG to 500 fps, which is where I'd like to upgrade to... so I've got a question or two. If I got the M16 type rifle I was thinking of getting the CA SR-16, upgrading it to 500 somehow, disabling the full-auto feature, putting a tightbore barrel in, and mounting a scope, but I don't know if I'd need to put something else in it to shoot better or more reliably such as a bore up cylinder, new gears, ect.

first off, if you really want an aeg, you might want to stay away from m16 variants. they use v2 gearboxes which aren't really that strong, even the reinforced ones. v3 gearbox guns (ak, g36) are generally better aeg sniper platforms.

That and semi-only AEG's will have an FPS limit of under 500. With the exception of AEG's with "sniper conversions", which means NO regular M4 or M4 RIS, M16's, AK's, MP5's, G3's, CA33's, ETC with just a silencer and a scope will be allowed to shoot more than 500 FPS.

I have a G3 SG-1 that is fully upgraded and shooting 490fps that i can sell to you :)

Well, if you want to go for a mil-sim look, and look like a "pro" and you want to be a sniper, stay away from M-16 models. WE DON'T USE THEM!! If you want to look like an American, stay with U.S. models, i.e. the good old reliable Remington 700 (whatever the airsoft companies call it, I've seen it for sale) or an M-14 variant, too expensive! If you're just looking for to go out and run around the woods, ah, go for what ever the experts in airsoft tell ya to. personally, I like mil-sim, that's just me though. The team that I'm forming is either going to based on members mil experience with sof or an oga contract team. just now putting it together.

Thanks, hope to be out there some time. Ours schedules are all jacked up though with either work or drill.

FYI in this month's Soldier of Fortune there are a couple of articles on snipers. The second article actually has a picture of a sniper using a suppressed m16. (Go to your local Borders and pick it up -plug for my store-)

That gun looks sick. Let us know when you get it all done up, I would like to see that sucker in action.

I para, I haven't recieved an email yet, try sending it through pm. Yeah, I'm like my girl likes shooting my guns as much as I do. I got her working in my brother's wife right now so he can make it out to more games. She's definitely a keeper, and she tells me that everyday.... Along with if she ever catches me cheating, she'll cut it off, cook it up and feed it to me..... :cry:

Hey para, thanks for the info!! You definitely a weatlh of information. That's interesting to know. At least I don't feel so bad building what I'm building. I know some people like to knock an m4 variant as a sniper rifle, and I'm sure there are some merits to the argument, but I really like the look. Plus being left handed, aside from the APS2, I don't know of another airsoft sniper rifle with a left handed bolt assembly, so a semi-only rifle works better for me.
