So many sea lions! Serously, I was amazed at home how many of those things there were in that cave. 1000's of them. Plus I guess all the ones that used to be at pier 39 in SF have left SF and come here too. Pretty awesome. Then we went to Tillamook NAS and it was pretty awesome, although I was pretty disapointed. Most of the planes that I really wanted to see were not on display today. THe p38, p47, and spitfire were not there. There was however the ME 190 and a Japanese Oscar. Most of there WW2 fighters were missing :( The drive up the Oregon coast was awesome, I forgot how pretty it is here. Tomorrow were off to see the Spruce Goose!

Is the 747 still out in front of the museum? Or have they started disassembling it for their "renovations"?
It's still out there... I guess they are going to build a water park and use the 747 as part of it.

Looks like a blast, I'm jealous!
Fort Stevens and Astoria Column and the shipwreck of the Peter Iredale. The batteries at Fort Stevens are nearly the same design as the ones of the same age in Marin. During ww2 they because the only US military base on the US mainland to be attacked by the Japanese. A submarine launched an airplane and dropped incendiary bombs in the Oregon forest hoping to start major forest fires on the west coast and divert manpower from the war effort. A few days later the submarine shelled Fort Stevens. They missed and no damage to the base was done. The commander wouldn't fire back at the sub because he didn't want to give away the position of the guns and as the sub was missing anyway it was no real threat. During WW1 they had mine layers mining the mouth of the Columbia River and they were based out of Stevens. The Peter Iredale was wrecked in 1906. There isnt' much left but the bow of it now, which is too bad. When I was first here about 10 years ago, the wreck was a lot more intact.

Yesterday we went to Seattle. I'd been there one a long time ago but didn't really do much. Still didn't really do much but we walked around and went up to the Space needle which was pretty cool. We at least had a local guide, one of Danielle's friends she had not seen since they were little kids lives there and she took us for a walk down to the waterfront and around town. I wish we had had more time there, it seems like we could have spent a week just there. A lot like SF only wetter and flatter.
