I just called the Congressmans office to voice my opinion against this law. It only took one minute. All you have to say is your name, that you are against SB798 and your zip code or city of residence. You can also give your reasons for being against this bill. Very easy to do, but very effective.

What is going to keep criminals from coloring their real steel to look like a replica as well? It may sound corny but it was the first thing that came to mind for me and poses the question how much will this law really do anyways to prevent shootings or will it increase them? And what is the government going to do with all the guns already in circulation as well as those sold outside of california? Those bringing this bill up did not fully think through the ramifications and are just looking for the support of the anti-gun crowd and as a response to recent shootings. It is not a solution rather another problem in my opinion.

I'd recommend reading this thread over at CalGuns. With us being residents of the Capital we are in a unique position, many others aren't. Writing letters, making phone calls and sending emails is all good. However if you want to make a real difference, be a thorn in the mother fucking lions paw.

I agree, Biz, but I think it's equally or more important to point out the reasons this bill will fail to make the public safer. Painting the guns a bright color will end in more people treating these non-toys as toys, carrying them in public, and creating more situations that can end in tragedy.
