These things are pretty cool but its kinda annoying that modern culture needs an amount of campy fantastical fluff to drum up interest in pre 20th century history and literature. :D Abe Lincoln slaying states rights and freedom of the press in the name of federalism is a much scarier story imo

I think a nice HBO mini series about Abe becoming President and the aftermath would be rather interesting. There is no need to add vampires into that mix.

its not supposed to be scary its a parody, and i agree the vampire crap is way over done, but look at it this way. When he wrote p,p,&z the priginol books sales went through the roof, becuase people wanted to read the real story. This current generation wont listen to real storys any more, its a sad state of affairs really, and if doing something like this gets them interested in real history whats the harm....

I'm really hoping HBO sticks with the historical drama stuff, they do some excellent, excellent work. John Adams was a little odd it the subtle ways the changes the facts of his life to make the story flow, but overall very factual. I'm really hoping they man up and do one on Napoleons rise and fall, they have the money and the talent to do his life justice I think.

I mean, I dig my fandoms as much as any other geek...I can talk shop about trek and 40k, but it seems like as things progress more and more people are consumed with fantasy to the point of loosing all basis in reality. And its not just geeks, reality TV is basically the same thing for less imaginative people.
