Today I was opening my CA SCAR up when I notices a small crack in the gearbox shell. upon further disassembaly I noticed it was a bigger crack that ran near my cylinder head. Another crack on the other side is also starting. is my gearbox toast? Or do i have a chance? Im no expert on airsoft internals so some opinions would be much appreciated.

Its bad, you need a new gearbox shell, otherwise when it fails and it will, the results will be catastrophic .

Well, as I was informed by aex, my gearbox is a "modified version 2". Basically, the gun is from 07, so I guess its modified to accept the ambi fire selector switch. Also the air nozzle is longer than a normal v2. I have removed the right hand selector switch because it slipped out of place often ( semi would be safe or auto ect ect.) So with the nozzle and special selector switch gears would any ol' shell work?

Would aex be able to do that kind or work or would it be better to start saving for a new gun?

You don't need a whole new gun just because your gearbox broke, just get a replacement gearbox shell.

Meh don't worry about it. I had a TM box that was broken in the same are that had fully snapped on one side giving me a 3 piece gear box...it ran fine for 2 years........

im not completely sure aex would do this kind of work. but it wouldnt hurt to give them a call, and ask to talk to one of the techies. i strongly recommend chris, mickey is good, but chris has pulled so magic twinkle fairy shit out of his ass. hes worked a few miracles on my kwa gbb m26r. and from what i hear, has a "magic" touch with aegs.

or talk to snoop, if it shoots little plastic bbs he can do anything to it!

I dont know if its of any use, but i have a spare gb shell if youd like. I could drop it off at asbg, and have alex put it behind the counter for you?

They take normal Ver 2 gear boxes. I've replaced them before, so all is good. Just have to file/dremel off the circle for a magcatch and then drop your internals into it.
