M249 gearbox work.
So I blew out my first piston on my 249, and I had a few questions.
I'm sorry, was that your face?!
Sadly, I am not really a techy person, but I can at least answer your last question.
My favorite moment at ASBG:
Correct AOE no matter what replica.
Having ran a saw for quite some time I would tell you that you will continue to blow pistons out as long as your running an 11.1 lipo. I tried dozens of set ups internally with batteries, motors, gears and springs. For me a standard set of gears with a 9.6 batt and 120 spring gave me the best combination of ROF and longevity. I also ran a lipo with super torque gears and a 120 because it slowed it down a bit but in the end that piston blew as well.

What does AOE refer to? Is this just a new TLA for something we all know to do?

If you where to correct your AOE and short stroke 1 or 2 your piston should hold up for a long time. Also make sure your piston is light not some heavy weight super core. Weight from the piston will cause a slower return rate.
I was actually thinking about dialing back tha battery a bit, but the reason I have the lipo is because of the size constaints of the PARA model m249. I was thinking maybe a 7.4 lipo? I usually use the saw at cqbcity where rof is indeed not as imortant as range.

And I was very impressed by the shim job. Best I have ever seen on a stock gun.

I do appreciate any educated opinion. :-)

Don't have a full aluminium piston. Its to heavy and will cause pre engagement issues at it will kill your piston and your gearset.
I would much rather strip teeth on my piston and replace that, than strip teeth on my gears and damage my gearset...which are usually significantly more expensive than most pistons. Just my opinion. :)
