Seeing as how this is a real steal thread might I pose a question? My question is this wat is the purpose if any of a free float barrel? I bought a Steven's model 200 .30-06' a while back and no one has been able to give me a real answer.

As far as I know, it was to help with accuracy. If your barrel was attached to the rest of the gun, there would be a chance that as you pulled it tight, you would cause the barrel to dip down. And since a lot of people like to use slings on their rifles that they wrap tightly around their hands as they shoot, you can see how the body could be bent a little bit.
