Ummm.. To me, it can. If it isn't charged all the way and it's barely getting any juice, like when it struggles to get the last BB out yes. I only notice this on NimH batteries. Nicd seem to fire strong till it dies. That's my 2 cents and remember, I'm no expert but that's what I have experienced with my gun.

Well, I know that, I didn't have a chrono out there on the field but the way the gun was barely pumping out a bb had to be because of the battery. Like I said, I'm no expert so your advice is probably more advisable than mine.

I don't believe it does. The battery is basicly powering a motor that turns a set of gears. The gears in turn pull back a piston that compress a spring. At one point in the cycle the gears release the piston, and the spring suddenly decompresses, and sends the piston into a cylinder. This causes a build up of pressure that is funneled through an air nozzle that propels the bb.

By the way, if the motor runs out of juice while it's pulling the piston back it just stops, so this leaves the pistion only partly pulled back and the spring compressed (bad if you leave it for too long). It has to make the full cycle to release the spring. You should always fire your gun a couple of times on semi to make sure the spring is not compressed when you're done using it....

it should affect rate of fire only

Well I just tested the low battery thing on one of my guns. And it did not effect the fps. I got the same fps holding the battery 2 inches off the ground as I did holding it above my head.
