It is the two year anniversary of the purchase of my CA SCAR-L and im looking to do something a little different with it, i was hoping to shorten the barrel to make it a lighter load ( The external barrel has 2 thread spots to arrange for this) and a more CQB friendly gun. Getting to the point I was wondering if any limitations come with shortening the internal barrel of an airsoft gun about 4 1/2 inches. I know in real steal guns this can effect the accuracy because of the rifling of the barrel makes contact with the bullet for longer, producing a more perfect trajectory but with airsoft guns being smooth bore does this matter? I have a Mp5a4 with barrel significantly shorter that my scar's and it seems to have similar groupings and range as my scar, even though this mp5 suffers from lower fps. So finally is shortening a barrel a horrible idea, or not so bad? also if I were to do this how would i go about it? hacksaw? I only wish to keep my gun in its best of condition and not damage it, thats why I came here first.
