seeking better understanding...

So, I've been advised by the guys at AEX to install a mosfet into my ca SCAR if I want to run a 11.1v lipo in it. I understand the reasoning behind it, and I understand what does, but what still evades me is how does a mosfet do what it does?
I'm sorry, was that your face?!

Hey you should check out the AEG Wizard. It's a chip that you just attach to your normal battery connector. not only does it have the whole lipo safety feature, but you can choose if you wanna do 1-5 round bursts or just full auto etc. and it's only 29 shipped

Well one of the main benefits of a Mosfet switch when it comes to airsoft is that is prevents the Arcing of your mechanical trigger like was said before.. When it arcs it results in a hard crusty crap around your contacts so the more build up the less amount of current is available to your switch. A Mosfet will also increase your trigger response since the Mosfet can activate your motor faster than mechanical contacts. AEX is probably referring to a mosfet with Active braking. That allows your motor to stop before your gear has a chance to pull the piston back. Since a lipoly is going to running 11v the chance of the arcing will be greater and the active braking will prevent major damage to your gear box.
