I Need Better Mileage?

Jun 3, 2005 2:11pm
I understand what you mean Ray, I'm just sharing my personal experience. Any upgrade to the engine will make it perform differently, exhaust, intake, ignition, comp remap, etc. Engines are designed from the factory to run restricted, its when we unrestrict them that they run stronger, faster, and guzzle fuel. So anytime you play with it, even somthing simple like timing, its gonna change the eficiency/mpg a little bit. yes?

I don't think you understand what I'm talking about. I'm not talking about ignition timing or spark duration. I'm talking about spark EFFICIENCY (stronger/cleaner spark). The more efficient the combustion, the more efficient the engine.

[quote="darkcobra"] I just want to make sure that this setup won't hurt my low RPM gas mileage? I keep hearing things that you get better Mileage in the higher RPM's and actually crappy mileage in the lower RPM's? Could this be true???

I dont mean to argue with you but thats exactly what I mean. Check out nolongys webite. Hotwires are plug wires that have built in capacitors that charge and deliver 300x the spark in 1/10th the duration. In addition Im running silvertone plugs which have a silver core(the best conductive metal there is). All im saying is that the spark in my lil toyota 4x4 is "overburning" the air/fuel mix, the engine runs rough because there just isnt enough fuel being fed into the cylinder to make the ignition happy. I dont know it that makes sense and like I said, I dont mean to argue...

I'm using an MSD6 BTM in my car along with NGK copper race plugs. Works great. The plugs don't last as long as the platinum or iridium, but for maximum spark, they're a real gem.

You guys make some very good points. There are many ways to inturpret information expecially on our fancy dancy auto-mobIles. Im not saying I dont agree with you but....well I dont know what Im saying. I fold. :)

I know a lot about this stuff and have some experience, but Ray's probably got the most knowledge and experience under his belt of anyone here.
