TM M4 Build

Mar 9, 2011 9:38pm
Starting TM M4 build. Just bought an old tm m4a1 all stock with broken body tabs for $100, internals in good shape, externals minus upper receiver in good shape, and now looking to turn it into a solid field gun. This is my first complete build but this week will start with a promy tb barrel and hop up. Any thoughts? And should i go with a longer barrel than just M4 length and cover it with a suppressor? Want this build to be all accuracy at 400 fps. Starting with internals first, then will go externals as the cash comes in. Will post pics of stock gun this week

no surpressor, tightbore is good
everything is amazing, but everyone is an idiot

If you make a TB through the silencer without the propper shims you will lose accuracy with barrel wobble.

ya ive heard tm hop up is pretty spot on, but i havnt received the gun yet but got it off ebay and i couldnt pass the price up. It comes tomorrow or friday, i will post again on how the internals look but i like you input! I will need much more to come! thanks again

pushing 400 will crack your TM gearbox.. lolz done it many times..

If you're going to go field-based with a TM, then I've got some suggestions. A Prometheus 6.03 looks good to me (currently use one in my Field-scrim M4). The difference between 403mm and 363 is negligible unless you want people to see the inner barrel. I agree with Sheep and fuddruckers that using a suppressor to cover up the elongated barrel will introduce barrel wobble and destroy the accuracy. You also have to take into account matching the barrel to the cylinder type to get the right amount of air compression so you achieve maximum Kinetic Energy at the precise moment the bb exits the barrel.

If you want to see accuracy benefits right away, go for the prometheus barrel and make sure to adjust the hop-up every so often as it tends to lose its effect over time due to the inherent nature of how M4 hop-ups are made.

Ok thanks! Ya it should come in tomorrow or friday and ill post up as soon as i open her up

V.Steven the lower gear ratios are high speed gears and the higher ratios are torque gears. Since most guns come with a ratio of 18:1 gears. Then 16:1 and 13:1 gears are high speed. Then 32:1 and 100:200 and 100:300 gears are high torque. I didn't post up all the ratios but that the general idea.

Argh, that's right. Shouldn't have stayed up late that night.

Lol no need for all of this tech talk crap.

haha you guys lost me in the gears, and ya johnny thats what ill be a doin but will probably stick with stock gears for now with tm spring until summer then throw in sp100 and gears cuz just playing cqb right now

Dude I have run sp100s on stock gears. It's no big deal they will hold up if you don't slap an 11.1 and go all batshit crazy. A good shim job is key. Talk to snoopy or Mickey.

ok will do, im just guna run 9.6, i hav a kwa running 11.1, i dont need two guns eating all my plastic

Johnnys got a good setup. Systema gears are not my cup of tea but they will work.

how does promy bucking compare to firefly and guarder?

Personal preference, I convert things to bearings over bushings
Mar 12, 2011 5:42am
Bearings are fine if the setup isint to demanding. Otherwise better to stick with bushings. 25 bps at 400 fps is a mediocre build so it would be fine. Anything more than that you have some issues. Its why KWAs 9mm bearing GB falls short is people put springs in them to shoot 500 fps with a lipoly which is the downfall.

can i run a 7.4v lipo with 30c or 20c output with stock internals?
impossible is nothing
Mar 12, 2011 5:56am
7.4v is pretty much a 9.6v so shouldn't hurt. Im gunna use a 14v lipo in my next build.
Mar 12, 2011 6:01am
ya, i might go with 7.4 cuz i like how long the lipos last. Running an 11.1 in my kwa build and it rips

Mar 12, 2011 6:18am
As long as you know how to handle lipos should be fine. A mosfet might be a smart idea but its not needed.
Mar 12, 2011 6:26am
i hav one in the kwa but with a 7.4 i should be fine but when i do the other internals i may throw one in, couldnt hurt

Would it be possible for a 7.4 LiPo battery to be significantly smaller and still retain moderate Amps? I'm familar with NiCd and NiMH setups but my only LiPo experience is with an 11.1 1400mAh and I was always curious how smaller size LiPos can carry enough Amperage to last a day's worth in the field. That concern is the only thing that's really preventing me from downgrading to a 7.4 to save on buffer-tube space.
Mar 13, 2011 7:47am
correct me if im wrong but u believe a 7.4 lasts longer cuz i have an 11.1 25c 1500mah lipo i run in my kwa and it doesnt last all that long but those that have a 7.4 lipo last a bit longer. Im guessing it has to do with difference in rof and the amount of volts being discharged but this is just me talking thru my butt and could be wrong

I was thinking more on the lines of a 7.4 LiPo that's still moderately small "2 cells" but still retains mAh of around 1400. (or 1500mAh) in your case. I saw a SOCOM 7.4 on RedWolf that advertises "nominal capacity" of around 7.4 and 1500 mAh and I thought "wow, it still looks that small? no way". I'm guessing it's the word "nominal" that's the ringer, but I only have experience with one LiPo and that's my Tenergy 11.1 Stick.
Mar 13, 2011 4:17pm
if your wondering how long its going to last during game play the rule of thumb on lipos is take the mah and mutliply by the amount of cells and that is the average amount of rounds you'll get out of that battery. If you want to keep it in the buffer tube your kind of limited to the size of lipo that oyur able to use, but if you move the wires to the foregrip you can get bigger and better lipo batteries

update on tm m4, plastic body is pretty much shattered internally, will be looking to get a metal body. Barrel wobble gaaah will need to get one piece outer barrel. Then will get one piece hop up for metal body
