I hate to say it people, but this is the world we live in. There are really only two things that you can do with old firearms: Let them fade into obscurity, or keep them going by updating them. Yes, the M1 Garand was, and still is one of best battle rifle ever made. That cannot be argued with. Can it be improved? Of course. Human ingenuity will never fail to think up some new and better way to kill someone. And people, lets remember one thing. These manufactures are not telling you to get out your grandfather's old M1 that he took the beaches of Normandy with and slap one of these on it. THAT would warrant a hanging. However, putting one of these on a modern replica? I honestly see no problem with that. Sure, it may rub some people the wrong way, but hey, it's not your rifle. If you don't want to put one on your walnut stocked beauty, then don't. Just don't go around telling people what they should and should not do. That's not your place. Leave that to the Church.

There is no such thing as a "modern replica" of an M1 unless you count the tanker Grands and even they are old now. Yes, there are post war ones but they are still highly collectible and to ruin the gun with something so silly is pretty sad. Sorry, you are not improving or updating a rifle like that in any way to make it better... just ruin the value and historic value of it. IF you want to be tacticool... buy an AR. Yeah, it's your gun do what you want with them... but all I am saying is that you're an idioit if you do. haha.

Actually, I'm pretty sure they're still making Garands. A limited number, but still in production for sale to civilians.

Looks like they're just disassembling the rear sight and using the two upright parts to hold the scope mount. Should be able to put it back together without any trouble.

I was just reading up on the Garand a couple days ago. During the Korean War they put out contracts to Harrington and Richardson and International Harvester for new M1's. Then in 1957 Springfield Armory assembled a batch to use up their stock of parts. And that was the last official US gov't production.

I'm not a fan of the look. But my philosophy with guns has always been function > looks. If someone needs a scope on their M1, then they put one on it.
