Best friend joined the Navy about 3 years ago. Hates it. Says it's the worst thing he's ever done and can't believe he was ever dumb enough to be excited about it. Said it's pretty much retards and sadistic people that you deal with all day.

active duty FC3(sw) Ravenstad currently on my last 2-3 weeks of a 8 month deployment to southeast asia here! what's your situation? have you already signed your life away? do you have a rated contract?
Thank you for the replies! They were all welcomed! And yes, ive already enlisted. Aircrew (aw) was my choice, and im trying to get a rescue swimmer contract as well to guarantee my spot on a helo. I leave april for bootcamp. It is a little dis heartening to hear that the navy is disliked by some of its enlisted, but thats part of it i guess. Im lucky to receive a promotion to e-4 after "a" school. If you guys have any more tips, suggestions or comments, id love to know more!
Your experiance in the Navy like any other military service will depend a lot on you. I spent over six years in the Navy and it I can tell you it depends on what you make of it. Sometimes it really sucked. Sometimes it was really awesome. Sometimes (a lot of times) we sat in class room and watched ten year old videos of how not to sexually harass each other. Sometimes you have to get your shots over again becasue they lost your record. Sometimes you are taking shots with hot Airforce chicks at the "Banyan Tree" on Kadina AFB in Okinawa trying to figure out how your going to close the deal. Sometimes you are marching through a blizard in Great lakes when its below zero outside and you just wish you were dead. And sometimes you are roping out of helicopter into a triple canopy jungle in south east asia hoping that you don't die. It's a roller coaster but its ups and downs and your own personal mental state can make or break your experiance. Go in and get as much as you can from the Navy. I have no regrets.
ok im 4 years in the navy SW2. and tis not that bad honestly first thing im going to tell you is GET EVERYTHING YOU ARE TOLD IN WRITING AND MAKE COPIES. navy recruiters are notorious for giving you bullshit. and practice running inside they do their PRT in a gym. you run around a little track with an anklet to get you time. and the most important thing if you wanna make it out in the essayist way possible do what youre told when youre told and how youre told and you will do fine
