Sector gear position + shimming

May 25, 2005 12:39am
I'm reshimming my gearbox right now to get rid of the whining noise from the noise. I've gotten to the point where I think I have a clue what I'm doing. Horay for me.

Hmmm... proper shimming always does wonders....

That seems WAY too much under the gears.

Man woodencow, you couldn't give me that help about a month ago when I was having gearbox problems. LOL It's all good, I got the hang of shimming now...

If I'm not mistaken, he's using bearing bushings...thus, the use of .3 and .5mm shims might be needed....

If I need to upgrade a stock V3 gearbox, do I need shims? And what type of lubricant do I need? thanks

Yup, that's your best bet to get a properly shimmed mechbox.

I now have .3mm under the spur gear, .4mm under the sector gear and 2 under the bevel gear. Thanks for the shimming guide woodencow. I do have systema metal bearings, and working with helical gears.

[quote="D80"] I enjoy figuring it out. I have no problems opening, and reopening my gear box or getting broken parts here and there due to my ignorance. When I first started playing with an AEG, I had no freaking clue what everything was (Decemeber), but since then, I have learned a lot on my own.

I want to do the upgrade myself since I bought the cylinder, cylinder head, nozzle, piston, M120S spring, metal bushing, guarder hop up bucking, and a KM TN barrel. All I need is some shims and some lube.
