Jun 9, 2005 10:52am
After talking to a SacAir member last night about the Yuba hill and rattle snakes I decided to look up some info. I have always carried and Extractor snake bite kit with me since the first game I went to. Here's the link I found on Rattle snakes if anyone's interested...

And for the love of God if you hear one DO NOT RUN!!!!! There's a good chance that you could run right into the one making the noise, or it's mate nearby.

Back in the days when I was the type to hunt for rattlesnakes, I would catch them for the purpose of their skins. With the type of luck that I've had in other excersions, I'm damned lucky that I've never been bitten (a couple of close calls though). Whenever I caught any, it is because I've had to look for them. They were never easy to find. If ever anyone has come across one, it isn't because the snakes want you too. They are more afraid of you than you are of them (no matter your phobia) guaranteed. If you hear their rattles going, it is because you're too close to them. The rattle is their warning to you to back up and leave them alone. If you get bitten, it is because you didn't heed the warning. They are mostly nocternal, meaning they are active at night. Otherwise, if they are seen during the day, it is because they are sunning during 50 to 60 degree weather. The reason for this is that they are cold blooded creatures. That means that they do not produce their own body heat. Hence the reason you might see them in the open.
