I am deciding between a famas sv and an ak variant for my next aeg. I'd like some educated opinions on the reliability of both aegs. Please don't be biased, I really want a pro/con analysis of both.

okay, i have handled both and they are like night and day as far as build.

AEX doesn't work on the Famas, nor can you get replacement parts for them I am told.

So repairs/replacement parts for the famas are hard to get?

call them 729-1200 and ask for parts for the FAMAS.....

FAMAS actually uses most of the V2 gearbox parts, piston, piston head, cylinder, spring guide and gears included. The stock FAMAS gears are set to a high speed ratio from the factory. The advantages of the FAMAS would include a high ROF and a longer inner barrel, straight out of the box.

Used to have a FAMAS, FAMAS is stright up a bb pisser, I doesnt need to upgraded to be effective.

Just as an additional note, the gearbox shell design itself is NOT a weak point in the FAMAS. It's probably stronger than the version 2 and 3, simply because it lacks the cutouts for the cylinder. The cylinder is completely enclosed on the version 1 gearbox and the gearbox is solid. Once again, the inability to upgrade it for power is mostly due to the motor limitations. You could work around that by using torque up gears, or infinite torque-up gears and a half-tooth piston. Since the gears and piston are replaceable with V2 parts, you really don't have much to worry about.

i slightly overheard ronnie at AEX one day, when a kid was wanting to try out a AUG and a Famas, the famas is a really hard gun to work on unless u know how to, other that that, i like the AK better. just get a big battery and put it in the stock.

Well, I have both of them FAMAS & AK47 and play with them all the time.
