Barrel Rifling "Anyone have access to a Metal Lathe?&qu

Jul 8, 2005 10:24pm
In short I am looking to make a few tools. I have not planned this out much but I figure that for this rather crude project I am wanting to do I will be needing access to a lathe to make the tools and then some good brains to help out with some ideas.

hmmm interesting but I tinhk we are taking this the wrong way....what we need to make is a real steel musket with hop up......or spitzer bbs...but then its just a 6mm pellet rifle

Back in the day when I had black powder pistols, my .45 Colt Walker had a slight twist barrel for ball projectiles. It differed from modern gun technology because it was a very deep cut. The ball litterally ran on rails out of the barrel. This was for some spin, but mostly for a way to keep the barrel from jamming up. In an airsoft gun, I believe it would have a negative effect by allowing the air to bypass the ball and slow down velocity. Now if you had the means to have a barrel with "octigon rifeling" such as a modern glock has, all the air would stay behind the ball. But this takes big buck machines that the average person would not own. If someone wants to do something really inovative, make a motorised hop up system. Think of it as a baseball pitching machine. A spinning rubber wheel connected to a small motor that counterspins the ball rather than a stationary hop up rubber piece. This would be very effective. -John
