this just out, a new body armor has been developed, the only drawback is that it's like 18 pounds! gonna be moving a tad bit slower! oh well, as long as it works! hey neo, imagine wearing this vest and that ammo load that i pm'd you about, on top of 60+ pounds of gear! that's what i liked about a'stan, mostly all vehicular! :D
I remember a few years ago watching this show about the development of this stuff called "Ceramat." It was developed to be used as ballistic armor for tanks. It was basically a hunk of ceramic with a block of aluminum sitting on top of it. They put it in a special oven and when they took it out, the aluminum had melted and fused into the ceramic. Not coated. Fused. They made a 1" thick plate, which was extremely light, and they fired a .50 cal into it from about 12" away. The .50 cal round disintigrated and left only a black mark on the Ceramat. They wiped it off and it looked good as new. Because of the materials, it actually weighed less than a plate of aluminum of the equivelant size. Don't know what ever became of it. I'm curious if it went into production or if they just scrapped the project.
Nothing like the military, but I remember carrying a heavy back pack with tent, sleeping bag and gear for miles upon miles! Dam I loved the cub scouts! LOL....
Ray's got the MOVES!
that was the cub scouts i was referring too
