hey does anyone know of a product that prevents poison oak and has personally tested it. because i need to kno or i wont be goin out until around summer. :(

I went mountain biking through feilds of poison oak last summer. Everyone was wearing shorts, and we must have brushed against hundreds of plants. As soon as we got back, we showered and used this soap stuff from REI. I don't remember what it's called, but it worked great. This one guy who's practically allergic to the stuff didn't even itch afterwards. I don't remember exactly what it was called, but if you ask about it at REI, they'll know what to give you.

i have gotton poison oak 3 times so far at cp. i just got it from saturdays game. i got it all over my face and neck, and some down stairs. ways to prevent this:

I get it Technu works killer for me. Alchol works too, not the kind you drink :P .

yup technu works well for me, really well for tom and he gets it if hes even around the bush not touching it. ya eriks right on alcohol too, basically any oil solvent.... somene should try that stuff that mechanics use to get the greases off thier hands when they wash, we have some called go-joe.. ill try it in summer when the poison oak is bad....

yeah i picked up some poison oak saturday too, i took a piss in the bushes but i didnt get it downstaires, just on my arms

Yeah i i have technu also stuff works great i touched the poison oak to see if i would get it, didnt get it. There itching relief for poison oak works good too its cold on contact, feels good!

the technu stuff doesnt work for me very well because it takes to long to get home to put the stuff on. but for all of you out there my doctor said that if you take some benadrill or clariton it woill prevent. some rash outbreaks

You know it is possible to use Technu right after the games. You just have a big jug of water to wash it off with after you wash with it. The biggest thing is to not touch your clothes too much. Thats where most the contact comes from, because there is not a whole lot of skin exposed with BDU's in the winter. The other thing that I have seen done is to take a pair of socks, usually OD green socks, and cut the toe off to put your fingers through, and then cut a thumbhole next to that. So you put those on, and pull the socks up your arms under your BDU's, and wear gloves over those. Its not as bulky as you might think.

Technu works well as does Dermashields both are available at LifeAssist in Rancho Cordova near the Jack in the Crack. They are an EMS supplier but they sell retail to the public as well. Give them a call.

ya that technu works good. but so does getting a steroid shot in the butt cause your face is all red and fat. and for 50% of people who who are immuned to poison oak....... i hate you

ummm. the technu stuff doesnt work but i use it anyways and yah the shot in the ass wasnt enough for how bad i had it.

only problem with the steroid shot is that it kills your immune system

Just remember campers, when in doubt don't scratch your yam sack with poison oak on your hands!!! It would be hard not to laugh at someone with poison oak on their junk and around the rim!!! LOL

You can but a product called oak and ivy block at rite aid or other store of that type. you put it on before you go out to the area where you'll be exposed to the posion oak. it prevents the oils from being absorbed into you skin then use technu to shower the 2 in combination will prevent posion oak.

Never had poison oak in my life.
