I would like to broach this topic with a understanding that this thread not be turned into a flame war or opinions.

Paintball masks DO NOT prevent injury PERIOD!. Most paintball facemasks have holes in them for better ventilation. These holes are perfect size for a 6mm airsoft bb to travel through. Remember paintballs are 68 caliber which is far, far larger in diameter than 6mm.

It comes down to what you already stated.... Its all about INSURANCE. Until an airsoft specific insurance company comes around, we are pretty much stuck with Full Face Mask and 300fps(some fields) guns to comply and run under paintball insurance policies.

This is all pretty much the reason why I've been playing with the Sacair fields. I like the idea that just goggles or safety glasses are suitable. Although, 6mm BBs have enough force to chip a tooth, it is nothing compared to 68 caliber paintball knocking out 2 to 3 teeth (it has happened). Back in my paintball days, I found it necessary to wear a full face mask. 50% of all hit's that I've recieved were to the face or goggles. It wasn't because my shooter was trying to hit me in the face. It ws because my head is what is exposed when I'm looking around a tree or over a bunker. Because of my mask, I've never had a mark on my face. But if you compare BBs to paintballs. Paintballs will leave nastier marks. For those of you that complain about getting hit at suitable range from a bb. May I suggest you try paintball a few outtings and then come back to airsoft. Paintballs hurt like getting snapped with a wet towel. BBs feel like getting snapped with a small rubber band. OK, with an AEG, multiple rubber bands. Nonetheless, I personally, feel goggles or safety glasses are just fine and should be to players discression. I personally wear the paintball goggles without the mask. I feel that with my fat sweaty head, glasses will fall off. I'm not sure if I'll attend the Weekend Warrior games until they hold a game other than a paintball field. 1. is that I play for free at the Sacair games (with more honorable players) and 2. the paintball fields require full paintball masks for insurance reasons.
