Silencing the beast

ive got a ics m4, and i wanna quiet her down. now i know i can do some piston work, and other internal mods, but i wanna look in to padding of some sort to quiet down the gearbox.

Just shim it well and make sure everything's adjusted well. BTW, my silencer quiets my gun down to where the gears are louder so ya they do help. Currently I'm trying to sell this gun.

P90 and M4 are two entirely different guns. You don't really have any room to add Dynamat into an M4 based gun. I would recommend doing as stated and just tune the hell out of the thing to get it quiet.

so theres no slick, yet thin fabric that i can put between the gearbox and reciver. ok, well what things can i do that will silence it, but not hinder my fps signifiacntly, and if it does, what should i do to upgrade it without slowing my rate of fire...

You're best bet is as wookie recommended, shim it correctly. That will reduce the whine somewhat.

first off, i probably should have said whats in the gun. first off, stock spring, i think its about the same as a m100, but i have no idea. i also have a tb barrel alredy, with a ca high tourque motor, and metal bearings. so nothing fantastic, but getting there. second, i head about a prometheus bucking for my guns hop up, that aperently is pink, but has the best efficency in that of not allowing any air to pass around it, so all of the pressure is exerteted out of the barrel. third, does anyone have a commparison beteween the systema and ca high tourques, noise and preformace wise.

I will tell you from my experience the CA gears and motor are louder. In fact my bro even noticed the difference on Sunday when I put the CA motot back it the gearbox was definitely louder. The same for the gears.

k, so has aex changed its ways. will they actually put in some gears ans re shim it if i go there. if not, does norca carry this stuff, or do i have to do it all myself. not to confident in that last situation

I think Ray is the primary tech over at AEX right now. If so, his work is some of the best you can get. There's only 4 people I would trust to open up any my guns. Ray, Shawn, Glenn and myself. I will not let anyone else open up one of my guns. That should speak volumes about Ray's work.

You can use automotive undercoat spray and either apply a coat on the outer shell of the mechbox or the interior of the body if you really wanted to insulate it. Doesn't work as well as Dynamat though.

i hope so, everyone else seems to be "freaked out" by their split gearbox design. for those who dont know, its like a real m4. lower has all the gears, upper has the spring, piston, etc. so easy that a 6 yr old could figure it out if u explaind it while he/she was doing it.
