what are these used for? and could someone give me a link to a site that sells them.

You can order them from almost any overseas store and some US based retailers. AEX carries the Detonics and the Mossberg 500. Airsoft Atlanta has the Raging Bull and the Desert Eagle, I believe. Redwolf, UNCompany, WGCShop, Dentrinity, War-4-Toys, etc... all carry them. Almost all of them are made by Marushin, so depending on the type of gun you're interested in, look it up either under the rifle, shotgun or pistol category.

Yeah. 8mm is a tad bit hot for gaming. My Bren Ten can shoot through the bottom of an aluminum soda can with green gas and a .34g 8mm bb. I'm not even going to go into what my Mossberg can do. Viscious.

why do people use them if they could use 6mm cheaper?

Why do some people use 7.62x51 when 5.56x45 is cheaper? Why do some people use 44 magnum when 9x19mm is cheaper? So many questions in life, but so few answers...
