Real steel accesories/mods vs. airsoft accessories/mods

Oct 1, 2005 12:09am
What I'm trying to ask is, what is the difference between mods for airsoft compared to the ones for the real steel. The Mods that I speak of would be something like an RIS, Aimpoint, butt plate, stock.....etc. Can a RIS from an actual M4/M16 fit the airsoft version, such as on a TM, CA or Olympic Arms? Do any of you have examples of using real steel mods on your AEGs? Is there a difference in price?

What I don't get is...why does every Red Dot Sight you buy say "For Airsoft Gun Only" when, in fact, I'm sure it could fit onto any real firearm. What's up with that?
Gun control is not Crime control.

With minor modification some of the stuff will work. I know that the Recoil buffer tube for the Airsoft M4 is completly diffrent than the real one and will not work at all so the stock is out. The ACOG sights might work for a while but it is likley that the redicule will break free do to the Shock of live ammo. I know the Real RIS can go on a Airsoft gun with a little work. I dont know why you would do that real steel is like $400 for a ris. I wouldnt try to put a airsoft RIS on a real steel unless you dont plan on shooting more than 10 or 15 rounds out of it a day. The front of a AR15 gets pretty hot and I dont think that the metal the Airsoft RIS is made out of will insulate very well.

I think the labeling is more to be able to pass customs, firearm restrictions and skirt certain patents and trademark issues. Aimpoint et al. are less likely to go after knockoffs meant as "toys" then someone cloning and then attempting to steal their marketshare.

Alrighty then. So, what I'm getting is that some of the mods from real steel (such as front stocks, butt plates and such) may not fit without modifying. But the scopes and such will fit but, real steel stuff is higher priced with the need for better quality due to recoil+stress...etc...etc.

You can also apply real steel to airsoft pistols too.
