(BlackIce).....I'm sure you have been asked several times now, but, do you have an idea about dates for your MILSIM scenario, yet?

Airforce DEPer/Trainee, Go to BMT in April and will end up E-2 starting because of college credits. Planning on signing up for 6 years when I head to MEPs before I head to BMT.

Freelancer.....dont sign for 6 unless they're throwing big bonus's out again, and the way we've been force shaping the past few monthes I doubt they are.

I agree with Kermit. Do some research before you commit. I'd shy away from a six year commitment as well unless they are offering a fat bonus in writing. Its a recruitee's market right now so be picky and get exactly what you want. Take the advice.

So at dinner tonight I was telling the ole lady that you were coming in the AF and that you would be working aircraft maintenance. I told her I was gonna try to get you to do your research, but she said you'll probably be set on it like most people are when they choose the aircraft realm. Her advise (which will be better then mine since Im not a maintaner) is to pick Heavies when your choosing your airframes. Heavies will give you chances to work C130's ... which often are assigned to AFSOC (my department) so you'll have the chance to work the C130 gun ships, and ALL of the AF Helo's, more then likely you'll go to a AFSOC (Air Force Special Operations Command) base, and will work around the Tac P's, PJ's, CCT's (my boys), and Combat Weather folks...if you like the high paced atmosphere, and real world situations, and your set on aircraft maintenance, at least head my womans words, if not you'll be stuck on a fighter base somewhere, around snobby @ss pilots, and never see any real operators.

Ii was only going to go for the 6 year if I didn't have enough credits for E-2 starting. Which I do now so it'll most likely be a 4 year. Personally I want to work with the F-16 frame and eventually move up to the JSF at the 4-6 year mark if I haven't gotten enough for college. My dad is an engineer for Boeing and a project manager. His wife (my step mom) works on and off with the JSF. It's a higher level than the F-16 but I do like fighters in general and not much of a carrier/tanker sort of guy. But from what I have read and been told, you don't choose with frame type you work on. It is chosen for you in tech school towards the later phases by testing via knowledge and skill tests. Besides I'm working on becoming comissioned anyways so I will try to get what little extra time I can to slap around whatever classes I can take towards an engineering degree.

Ok, my woman says you'll get your airframe based on your AFSC. It's coded based on the job you pick at MEPS. Wether your Air Combat Command, or Air Mobility Command. Once broken into those class's, your randomly slotted on a airframe, not based on your skills or knowledge, and I can vouch for that, Ive seen some of the morons who work on the U2 Recon plane with my lady and they are morons, and this is the elite spy jet of the united states. Its all random on what airframe you get.
