So I am new to airsoft, but not totally new. I know about 75% of what one should know, but there is one thing that I can't seem to figure out. I was wondering if the flash hider on AEG's is functional, or if it is just carried over from the real version to make it look authentic?

what do u mean functional? like actually hide the flash? no flashes come from these guns. they doo look sexy as all hell though.

some flash hider do serve as a purpose. like some are able to hold the qd silencer to muzzle sound. or some flash hiders take for instance the akb, its loud coming from the endof the barrel, but they make a flash hider that looks like the one it comes with, but with foam to silence it a little. but like michaeld said they do look sexy just as long as you get the right one for you gun.
Both of my guns are gas, so I was just wondering if I could maybe rig something up to hide the gas and also muffle the sound, mainly on my rifle. I am going to be rigging something out of foam soon though.

what kind of gas gun rifles are they. you should be able to add a qd or unscrew the flashhider and replace it with a foam silencer.
